Chevron licenses EOR tech to ZL Chemicals

Chevron Technical Center and ZL Chemicals have signed a technology licensing agreement that will allow ZL Chemicals to commercialise Chevron-developed chemical surfactant technology for EOR applications, Chevron announced on Wednesday.

Under the agreement, ZL Chemicals will market Chevron-developed chemical surfactant products and services under the Vantis brand. Broadening market access to the technology is expected to support recovery from shale and tight reservoirs, including through base well EOR programmes and new well optimisation efforts.

“Technology creates more value when it can be applied broadly. Advanced chemicals are one of Chevron’s areas of differentiation and have supported innovation in our own operations. Through this licensing agreement, we’re creating a pathway for ZL Chemicals to bring this technology to a broader market, and at scale,” said Ryder Booth, Chevron’s chief technology and engineering officer.

Chevron is one of the world’s largest integrated energy companies, with upstream, downstream and petrochemicals operations in the US and internationally. In the US, the company is a major producer in the Permian shale basin.

ZL Chemicals provides EOR chemistry, field services, polymer and surfactant systems, engineered deployment technologies and wellsite support for oil and gas operators. The company has manufacturing centres in China and the Middle East, and regional blending facilities in the US and Canada.
